The decline in applications and the shortage of young talent are clearly noticeable in many companies in the sector: training places remain unfilled, the professions are losing visibility and fewer and fewer young people even know what electroplating and surface technology is all about and how diverse, modern and indispensable it is.
Girls' Day can counteract this. Girls' Day provides practical experience in professions and fields of study in which the proportion of women is currently below 40 per cent. This also includes many industry professions, such as surface coater (m/f/d) or process mechanic for coating technology (m/f/d). Interested schoolgirls can get a taste of the world of electroplating and surface technology on the campaign day, while the participating companies have the opportunity to inform young people about the industry and get them interested in technical professions.
The next Girls' Day will take place on Thursday, 23 April 2026 .
Registration is already underway via the nationwide platform:

The Female SurFaces, the women's network of the ZVO, would like to encourage companies in the sector to take part in Girls' Day in large numbers.
To this end, they have put together a package of measures to promote Girls' Day and support participating companies in organising the event, as announced in Newsletter 33/2025 in December. A toolbox is now available for download on the Female SurFaces website, which contains planning aids, a notice board, social media postings, a sample schedule as well as possible activities/games and other resources.
On request, the Female SurFaces can also provide printed A3 posters as well as distribution lists and addresses of neighbouring schools.
As a service exclusively for ZVO members, the customisable social media postings "Wir machen mit" can also be displayed via the ZVO's social media channels.
The Female SurFaces are also available as contact persons.
If you have any questions and/or need support, please contact: female.sur.faces(at)zvo.org
The Female SurFaces are looking forward to your active participation - as an important contribution to actively shaping your own and the industry's future.
